Sounds a lot better then “stokje”. Verca said I may write the questionnaire in Dutch, but I take the challenge and write it in English. Maybe steenkolen English.
You’re stucked inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?
First thing in mind is De gekwelde woordenaar, but that is more because of the title. After all I am de woordenaar.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
A crush is a strong word, but in a way I admire Death from the discworld series.
The last book you bought?
Otto Weininger of Bestaat de jood? from Marek van der Jagt, written for the month of philosophy. The essay will concern the work of the Viennese philosopher Otto Weininger, who became popular after his suicide on his 23e.
The last book you read?
I just finished Gouden woorden by Gerrit Komrij, a collection of columns written for Dutch newspaper NRC.
What are you currently reading?
I have almost finished Marek van der Jagt’s De geschiedenis van mijn kaalheid. I really do love the work of Arnon Grunberg and his alter ego Marek van der Jagt.
Five books you would take to a desert Island.
Finally the time to read the Bible. And, to read it in a proper way, I also take De bijbel volgens Nicolaas Matsier with me. That book is really an eye-opener, reading the bible as literature.
Naturalis historia by Plinius is another book I really want to read. A true encyclopaedia in 37 books, composed without much critical sense, in which an enormous mass of facts has been incorporated, concerning nature sciences, astronomy, geography, anthropology, biology, medicine, mineralogy (and connecting thereby also important data concerning the application in and the history of the arts).
I would like to read Mein Kampf, just to see what’s in it and why it is forbidden. Arnon Grunberg read it before writing De joodse messias, in which the main characters are planning to write a Hebrew translation of that book.
My last selection will be De lof der zotheid by Erasmus, which is standing on the shelves for years.
